Asbestos Testing / Survey & Asbestos Abatement

Seattle Metro Area is a beautiful area that is almost like a second Silicon valley. Many big tech companies are based out of the Seattle Area, including Amazon, Microsoft, and many others. While Seattle Metro area is an amazing area to live, many of the houses were built during the years when asbestos was advertised as a benefit to the house. For this reason, Service Pros & Asbestos is here to help you guide through the harmful asbestos substance. If you have not heard what Asbestos is, asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can be a component of some building materials. Asbestos is known to be a hazardous carcinogen and has been linked to being the primary reason for Mesothelioma. Homeowners, landlords, and contractors must perform testing or site surveys before disturbing or demolishing building any building materials that may contain asbestos. Although most people are aware of the potential for asbestos content in popcorn ceiling, vinyl tiles, and pipe insulation; any building material that is not made of wood, metal, or glass may contain asbestos. An AHERA accredited inspector will help you to determine the appropriate sampling plan and protocol to ensure that you protect yourself from health impacts and liabilities, without wasting money on abating unnecessary materials. Service Pros & Asbestos in Bothell, WA would be happy to discuss your project and come up with a plan that meets all federal and state requirements without excessive costs and fees.

What is the cost of Asbestos Survey?

Asbestos fibers

To be in compliance with all Federal and Local regulations, our asbestos survey isn't just a result of the samples. But rather it provides the customers a report that are AHERA (EPA) and Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) compliant. The labs that we use are certified with NVLAP certification with the required quality control.

What is the cost of the Asbestos survey?

Our price of $350 includes the trip charge and the report, but the actual amount various based on how many samples are required by the AHERA requirements. Each sample gets collected and submitted to an NVLAP certified laboratory.

What if you want to submit the samples yourself?

If you decide to sample and submit the samples yourself, you are able to do so. But your results will not be valid to meet the WAC 296-62-07721 Section 1(c)(ii) "Before authorizing or allowing any construction, renovation, remodeling, maintenance, repair, or demolition project, an owner or owner's agent must perform, or cause to be performed, a good faith inspection to determine whether materials to be worked on or removed contain asbestos. The inspection must be documented by a written report maintained on file and made available upon request to the director."

(A): "The good faith inspection must be conducted by an accredited inspector."

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a group of six naturally occurring fibrous minerals composed of thin, needle-like fibers. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral composed of soft and flexible fibers that are resistant to heat, electricity, and corrosion. These qualities make the mineral useful, but they also make asbestos exposure highly toxic.

Asbestos is an effective insulator, and it can be used in cloth, paper, cement, plastic, and other materials to make them stronger. But when asbestos dust is inhaled or ingested, mineral fibers can become permanently trapped in the body. Over decades, trapped asbestos fibers can cause inflammation, scarring, and eventually genetic damage. A rare and aggressive cancer called mesothelioma is almost exclusively caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos also causes other forms of cancer as well as progressive lung disease.

Exposure to asbestos causes several cancers and diseases, including mesothelioma and asbestosis. Although asbestos strengthens and fireproofs materials, it is banned in many countries. Asbestos is not banned in the United States.

Do I need an Asbestos survey?

Whether you are remodeling yourself or you are going to hire a contractor for your remodeling needs. Washington State and Puget Sound Clean Air Agency require an Asbestos survey before remodeling can start.

"On July 12, 1989, the EPA issued a final rule banning most asbestos-containing products. In 1991, this regulation was overturned by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. However, as a result of the Court's decision, only a few asbestos-containing products remain banned." (EPA)

Currently USA does NOT have a ban on Asbestos-containing products and any product imported into USA can contain Asbestos. For this reason Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) requires Asbestos testing before renovations or remodeling.

"The Agency can assess a monetary civil penalty up to $18,388.00 per day per violation. If an economic benefit is realized by non-compliance, the penalty can reflect this estimated cost which is often non negotiable. Criminal sanctions may occur for a knowing or willful violation." (Puget Sound Clean Air Agency)

Inhalation of Asbestos particles can be very dangerous to your health. Mesothelioma is a cancer that is linked directly and only to Asbestos exposure.

HEAR WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY!!

"A great overall outfit. Working with them was easy because of quick and concise communication. Additionally, they were willing to be patient with me while working on this job dealing with an insurance claim (for water damage) that took longer than necessary to resolve. The carpet and laminate they installed looks great. An all around solid service, I would hire them again.

David's overall helpfulness and professionalism was a great benefit to getting issues dealt with as they came up and he was available to answer any questions I had along the way."

"I spoke with David to get the estimate set up. They were very profession and were reasonably priced. I would highly recommend them and hire them again if I need more work done. I was extremely satisfied with how they handled the installation of laminated flooring."

"We contacted Service Pros & Asbestos* after a recent water damage due to an internal pipe bust behind our dishwasher. David, Dennis and Andre came over quickly, assessed the situation and established trust with their understanding of the problem and got to work quickly. Our insurance had denied the claim, so we were on a strict budget and Dennis and Andre did a fantastic job within the constraints that we had. They were punctual, respectful and very efficient. We were amazed with the different techniques they used to dry out the damaged areas with minimal demolition. Their work was simply amazing. They also turned out to do the restore/rebuild work in less than a day, miraculously saving us the pain/cost of reflooring the entire kitchen/living room by reusing a very finite quantity of left over laminate. The work turned out perfect, and it doesn't look like anything happened in our kitchen. Their invoices were very reasonable and we've already picked out other projects around the house they can help with. Our only regret was that we didn't find them earlier. I highly recommend them."
